I tell you, evil does exist. In fact, not only it exists but it is comfortably installed in your living room or, worst, in your home theater. Evil can take many shapes. As far as I am concerned, it is hidden within 42 inches of pure plasma pleasure. My TV is eating out my brain and it definitely affects my personal finance. Am I going crazy? I don’t think so; I think it’s already done!
It’s a huge waste of time
I am not part of those intellectual who thinks that TV is getting people dumber. In fact, I really enjoy watching TV shows such as Lost or 24 and I don’t think that watching the show is a waste of time by itself. However, the TV effect on an individual’s brain is disastrous. It takes you away from your focus and asks your brain to slowly switching off all common sense and rational department of your head. This is even worst when you get into a series. For example, only 2 months ago, I started to watch 24 (season 1). Within 60 days, I watched 72 hours of it. I have seen 3 series and I just can’t wait to start the next one. This is where TV is getting a waste of my time. Instead of bloging or concentrating on my MBA paper , I watch TV shows.
It’s an energy drainer
There is one thing I notice when I start watching more TV than usual; I have less energy to do other stuff. I am under the impression that the more I become a couch potato, the less thing I can do after watching this damn piece of plastic. If I go on my Playstation or I watch more than 2 hours in a row, it is virtually impossible that I get up to do something else… besides going to bed 😉
Creativity shut down
Watching other people live is definitely one of the best way to keep your creativity level low. You are sitting and waiting to get fed by images and sounds. There are no interactions and therefore, no effort requested from your brain.
It’s time to become more selective
The only trick I found in order to not waste too much time on my couch is to become more selective. Therefore, I selected a few TV shows and stay with them. Watching TV a few hours a week is no big deal, in fact it is pretty good for relaxing. The problem comes when you need to play with the remote control!
