During the Holidays, I always take some time off from blogging and ask myself the following question: What will be the 3 things I will do with my blog in 2011?
While doing this exercise, I try to avoid the regular BS resolutions such as:
– writing better posts
– commenting on other blogs
– be more active on forums
These resolutions are like the ones we make on New Year’s Eve:
– eat healthier
– go to the gym
– be a nice person
We can’t achieve them because they are too general and because there are no specific objectives. If you want to achieve something, you need to have SMART goals . If you can’t measure, you can’t truly say that you have achieved something, right? Going to the gym is as easy as going once but losing 10 pounds for December 31 2011 is something different!
I’m curious to know what your goals for your blogs will be in 2011.
Here are mine:
#1 Get over 250,000 visits per month with my blog network (currently at 200K)
There are not many ways to increase traffic. The most common are:
– Writing good content
– Commenting on other blogs
– Doing keyword research in order to get more traffic
– Doing promotion via Twitter and Facebook
With the help of my 2 Virtual Assistants and more time to write, I am convinced that 2011 will be a terrific year in terms of traffic.
#2 Write a free ebook and have 500 downloads
I have been thinking about writing an ebook for several months now. But thinking doesn’t rhyme with writing ;-). This is why I have decided to write about this project on my blog. Now I need to do it! Why write a free ebook? Because I want to share my knowledge and improve my blogs’ visibility. There is nothing better than offering good, free content to do so ;-). The ebook will probably be related to investments.
#3 Create my first product (ebook) and sell 100 copies
While I want to write a free ebook, I also want to increase my revenue! I am accumulating some great content that’s worth paying for access. With the success I recently had with my pillar post, I am tempted to write more insightful content and package it in a way that younger bloggers will find great benefits.
#4 Create 10 niche websites and make a minimum of $100 per month with each of them.
Since we are pretty strong in the PF blogosphere, we want to diversify our business with more specific sites. Several bloggers are talking about niche websites, I’ll give it a try on my end. We are already working on 2 niche websites at the moment and they should be complete within the next month or so. Then, it will be a matter of making a few bucks out of them while getting 8 more great ideas for the other websites.
#5 Switch The Financial Blogger’s direction from Personal Finance Blog to a PF/Online income blog
I think this one is pretty obvious as I have been talking more and more about my venture while leaving several personal finance topics to my other blogs. Here’s how I want to spread my blogs:
The Financial Blogger : passive income, career, make more money with less effort, investment, make money with the internet
The Dividend Guy Blog : all about dividend stocks, investment strategies and stock analysis
Green Panda Treehouse : A young and dynamic approach for beginners in the world of personal finance
Do Not Wait : A reference in terms of retirement planning for DIY investors
Intelligent Speculator : Techno stocks and ETF commentary
As you can see, we have a pretty definite line for each of our sites and I hope that you will find what you are looking for within our network. This is going to be a fun and exciting year!
