If you have been reading The Financial Blogger for a while, you have certainly noticed that I am a big HABS fan. Tonight is game 7 (in a best of 7 series) between the Montreal Canadiens playing at the Pittsburgh Penguins. I was at the game last Monday in Montreal when my team won 4-3 and I can tell you that the atmosphere at the Bell Center was totally crazy. You could feel the passion consume the entire building, it was contagious like a wild fire.
While I was astonished by the way the players were skating against the Stanley Cup Champions, I realized that they were there for a reason. A single reason that made all this possible. At the beginning of the season, nobody thought they would even make the playoffs. In fact, most journalists were predicting the 12th or 13th position for the Canadiens (you need to finish at least 8th to make the playoffs). Most of them thought the Canadiens would not go very far in the playoffs since they made it in at the last minute by 1 tiny point on the final game of the season. At that time, the team was already put in a coffin since they had to battle against the mighty Capitals (the best team in the regular season).
There is one reason that explains how the Canadiens have made it this far. This is the very same reason why anyone could make something awesome. This reason has a name. And this name is: perseverance. In anything you do, if you don’t put all your talent, effort and desire towards an objective, you risk having to settle for average or mediocre results. However, if you keep working constantly, never quitting, you have a chance of being rewarded for your efforts and consistency at the end of the road.
The Canadiens’ story is there to remind you that when you establish a budget to pay off your debt, when you put money aside to buy your first house or when you reinvest most of your cash flow back into your business, if you do it with passion, if you do it with effort and if you do it with perseverance; your talent can bring incredible results.
Personally, I try to use examples such as the Canadiens to boost my motivation at work or when I work on my online company. I try to remember that people who experience great success know it started with great efforts in their work. There are no free lunches in life and if you want a piece of the pie, you better start working right now!
Some say it’s luck, others say it’s destiny, I tend to think that we make our own good luck while others dwell on the negative in our lives. If you don’t do much and you end up with great results, it is surely luck (but don’t worry, it may not last very long). But if you are successful because you work hard, you will have a complete life full of joy and freedom.
So, all together now, cheer for the Montreal Canadiens who are playing tonight, and let’s cheer for all of you who wake up every morning with your goals in mind. Good luck to us all!
