When I started 15 years ago it was great career and I think it still is, the problem is that the world economic meltdown seems to have focused on bankers. Bankers mean finance and finance means financial planning…etc.
I’m going to keep at it and I’m proud to be a financial planner!

I have my MBA and I am a CFP but I don’t work with clients because I prefer to just run my own startup companies instead but love to see that you are so enthusiastic about financial planning. No matter what you end up doing – whether you stay a financial planner for the next 50 years or do something else in 10 years a lot of the financial expertise that you have and will learn as a financial planner will serve you well in other positions also.

I know exactly what you mean. I’m an Independent Financial Planner (CFP) in Hamilton. I work with a small book of not particularly wealthy people, but I provide the with top rate service and advise. I’ve had to expand my services to include Life/health insurance, tax preparation and am also now a Mortgage Broker. All this to try and increase my revenues because it is very difficult to build a practice in this environment and my revenues are still well below average. People ask me why I keep doing this, given all my education and knowledge, if I’m not making much money. I say it’s because I feel I’m making a difference in peoples lives and hopefully all this “good karma” will pay off in the long run.

We need people like you that are enthusiastic, innovative, passionate and energetic about their job! We definitely need more people like you! It’s too bad that a small group of fraudulent companies ruining the reputation of the finance industry and representatives… Keep on running after your kids hehehe
