Looking for a good (does it still exist?) certificate of deposit rate? I believe I have found the best place to do your rate shopping! Sorry Canadian readers, the site offers only US CD rates. I was actually quite surprised to find out that their short term rates are far better than what is being offered by Canadian banks right now (1 yr CD rate at 2% twice the 1% in Canada!). However, the 5 year is pretty similar (3.4%)… kind of strange…
What is Select CD Rates?
Select CD Rates is more than a simple CD rate shopping site. This is THE shopping place for money market funds and bank savings accounts as well! There is a very easy layout to surf and it assists you in finding the best CD rate in your State.
What makes you want to visit this site?
Well you obviously need to visit the site if you want to get an idea of what kind of rates you can get on any kind of guaranteed investment. The money market funds section is pretty useful since you get a picture of the current yield for several funds (which are, once again, much higher than Canadian money market funds… are they riskier? Good question!).
Are the resources really helpful?
What I really like about the site is the fact that you can get all the information you are looking for within a few clicks. And, most importantly, the information is FREE! So you can have a pretty good idea if your banker is toying with you or if the rate he is offering is decent.
Another interesting section is the economic data and historical rate history found on the site. You can find a lot of information about employment (or should I say unemployment?) rate, goods sale stats and housing trends.
Can improvements be done?
I was pretty surprised to find all the information I was looking for while surfing from one page to another and I can say with confidence that the site is quite complete. The site is filled with relevant and easy to find information about all kinds of secured investments.
I would refer all my American readers to Select CD rates if they are looking for the best CD rates in the state without having to leave home 😉
