What lame examples. Losing a job or quitting a job isn't chaos: it's simply change. And, when change happens, you have an opportunity to try something different. Wow. How profound.

Chaos is when your boss is demanding 20 hours overtime a week, you discover that your spouse is having an affair, your 15-year-old daughter is pregnant and alcoholic, and the county is buying your house next month at less than market value because it plans to convert your street into a parkway. If you can keep your sanity and improve your life under these circumstances, that's benefiting from chaos.

Hi

Thanks for sharing your valuable experience. I'm more or less on the same boat as you are, however, I quit my two part-time, well paid jobs to start my own business. Although it had taken me three interviews to get one of them (bank), but I preferred to be the fool than obeying so many other fools!
The "bubble" your manager said, I call it "the box"; once you come out of it, creativity starts to emerge.
Now I'm still struggling with life to find my place in it and it's been a while (a year) that I'm trying out my business-side adventures; but honestly, I'm having the best time of my life! Maybe I doubted a while back, but I did some small quick-cash jobs to survive and now I actually know where I'm heading toward. I may write another post right here soon to share my success story with you :)

@ Financial Samurai,

I actually doubt my decision the Monday mornin after I quit (the very first day I was jobless)... While it was a great feeling to tell them everything I wanted and quit, but I was quite anxious to wake without a job after!

Luckily, I found a job 2 weeks after I quit. In the meantime, my parents offerred me to work for them (but I didn't know when I quit).

If you quit to do something that you like or beause you really don't like your job, you will utimately make the right decision. Life is too short to wake up everyday and not wanting to go to work!

Hey mate, thanks for sharing your story here and over on my site. Very gutsy of you to quit out of principal! What was the time gap between when you quit and when you found your current job? Was there a moment in time during that gap when you doubted your decision?

I've always told myself I'd "retire" from my job at a specific age. The age has been extended by a couple years due to the downturn, but I remain steadfast. I'm just wondering when I quit, will it have been the right move. How will we ever know for sure?
