Hello Shevy,

Let just say that if you don't have to take your car in Montreal on July 1st, then don't do it! Every year, there are between 200,000 and 300,000 people moving at the same time.

I would say that a lot of people are moving by themselves. We see all kind of weird stuff on that day like a queen mattress on the top of a Hyundai Elentra for example :-). Most people who buy their first home will try to not move on July first in order to be able to get a moving company. There are also a lot of truck rental services.

Most of the time, companies are 110% booked on July 1st and move from 6 am till midnight. The rest of the year, they still have clients ;-)

I came over from Four Pillars to read this and I still have questions.

How do people who move to Montreal at other times of the year manage to find a place to live? And how do moving companies manage? They have barely any activity all year and then everybody is trying to book them for this one particular day. I don't see how they can afford to maintain a large enough fleet to handle the demand on July 1, when they sit idle the rest of the year.
