For A Frugal Valentine’s Day
|
If you are part of a young family as I am, you are probably short in cash and short in time in order to have a great Valentine’s Day. This sometimes leads people to forget about this Holiday or simply avoid it saying it is “too commercial”. I also like the “I don’t need a date on the calendar to make my spouse feel like she/he is special”. Maybe you are right, but I still prefer doing something special on that date. So here are some tricks for a cheap but nice Valentine’s Day. |

You start it at
Can’t afford (or find!) a babysitter for the kids? Put them in the bathtub at
How about an indoor picnic?
It’s about -10 degrees today, so there is no point of thinking doing something outside. However, there is nothing less romantic than an indoor picnic in the living room (if you have a fireplace, it becomes better than going out in a fancy restaurant ;-)). If you don’t have the fireplace, put some nice music on and please, don’t open the TV!
What’s for lunch?
I love the wine and cheese approach. Unfortunately, you can’t go cheap on those items. However, you can find a good bottle of wine for about $10-$15 which is not too bad. Get some grapes and bread and your in business!
Where is the desert?
I like classics such as strawberries with whipped cream. However, this year I am thinking of doing my own truffles. They are really easy to make and they taste delicious. Even better, they are pretty cheap to make!
Gifts
The point here is not to show how much you love your better half with the length of your Master Card bill. Go simple, go sincere. If you want to buy flowers, buy one rose, it will have the effect you are looking for. If you have more budget and time, you can go make your own bracelet or necklace. What ever you do, don’t forget to write a nice card. Words lay deep in our minds and soul.
So I hope you will have a nice Valentine’s Day and that you (or your heart) will not be broken at the end of the day!
